In order to become a REGISTERED, QUALIFIED teacher, you must complete a Teacher Training course. Glenda Yee is an examiner with the Federal Association of Teachers of Dancing, her students complete yearly examinations in this method in TAP and JAZZ. It therefore follows that she trains students (who wish to achieve teacher qualification) in the FATD method.
Here is an outline:
At 16 years you are eligible to obtain your PRE ELEMENTARY certificate.
This is the first MAJOR exam, and successful candidates receive a written report and a Certificate of Registration, noting them as an Undergraduate of the specific dance style of the exam.
At 18 years students are eligible for the DIPLOMA DEGREES.
There are 3 levels, and 3 parts to each level :
PART 1
ELEMENTARY which deals with the syllabus from pre- primary to Grade 4
INTERMEDIATE dealing specifically with the syllabus from Grade5 to Gold Star
ADVANCED which requires knowledge of the whole syllabus, with emphasis on Gold Star and higher.
All candidates receive a written report and successful candidates also receive a certificate.
PART 2
Candidates are required to demonstrate their teaching ability with a class of students of varying standards.
The student may nominate the grade they will teach.
At Elementary level, it must be a class from pre-primary to grade 4.
At Intermediate level it is to be a class from grade 5 to Gold Star.
At Advanced level the students must be older than Grade 5 level, and the candidate teaches an OPEN class.
All candidates receive a written report. Successful candidates also receive a formal letter of certification.
PART 3
ELEMENTARY : ANATOMY and PHYSIOLOGY
This is basically a self study program structured upon the FATD’s prepared notes ‘ANATOMY FOR DANCE’ by Claire Hillier.
It is a written test paper.
INTERMEDIATE : ANATOMY and PHYSIOLOGY part 2.
Including Safe Dance techniques.
Also a written exam.
ADVANCED : PSYCHOLOGY
All students are also required to obtain their FIRST AID Certificates and update them every 2 years.
